Owd Money
When I remember times gone by,
How the years have seemed to fly,
To some of the young 'uns' it must seem funny,
That we used to pay for things with good owd money,
I remember the the farthing, and halfpenny too,
Twenty pound notes were something new,
The most usefull coin was the good old penny,
the ways you could use this coin were varied and many,
you could spend a penny to get some sweets,
Perhaps a bun or other treats,
To go to the toilet, or use the phone,In slot machines, or bus fare home,
The oddest coin was the three-penny bit,
It was thicker than the others, it didn't seem to fit
Another favourite was the good old tanner,
Or six-penny piece if you used your grammer,
It took two tanners to swap for a bob,
Or shilling piece if you were a snob,
Then there was the the florin, or two bob piece,
To have this spending money was the golden fleece,
There was the half crown, worth two and six,
You could go for a day out with it, or even the flicks,
The crown piece was worth five shillings,
You only got one, if lady luck was willing,
You were quite well of with a ten bob note,
You could flash it around, even gloat,
I used this money when I was a kid,
I thought I was rich if I had a quid,
Two hundred and forty pennies, or eighty three-penny bits,
Even forty tanners, would throw me into fits,
Twenty shillings,or florins equaling ten,
Eight half-crowns, a lot of money then,
Four full crowns, They're all worth the same,
I've nearly run out, not many more I can name,
Two ten shilling notes, my final bid,
They all come to the same, they all equal a quid,
I value these memories, they don't fade with time,
I don't have much, but these memories are mine,
No such memories for the kids of today,
They are bought with plastic, the only way to pay,
