WILLIAM WYON ENGRAVER AND MEDALLISTS 1795 - 1851. William Wyon was born into a distinguished family of engravers and medallists in 1795. One of his greatest work was the acclaimed 'Young Head of Queen Victoria which graced her gold and silver currency for almost fifty years. For the reverse of his pattern £5 piece of 1839 Wyon featured the Queen as Una guiding the British Lion, a coinage now justifiably acclaimed as one of the most outstanding of the nineteenth century.
