200TH ANNIVERSARY OF CHARLES DARWIN 1809 - 2009 Coin, enclosed within a Large First Day Cover, issued by the Royal Mint in original package, and in pristine condition.
In discovering and demonstrating that life on Earth has evolved, Charles Darwin became one of the most important scientists in history. Born at The Mount, Shrewsbury, on 12 February 1809, he was the grandson of Erasmus Darwin and Josiah Wedgwood. His family on both sides were part of a rising class whose wealth was based on science and industry. Over Darwin's lifetime Britain changed beyond recognition, and just as the physical land-scape changed, so did the way people saw the world. Few were more important than Darwin in bringing about that change.
