This sterling silver coin celebrates the wedding of Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones. Their wedding took place on 19th June 1999 and its setting in the Gothic surroundings of St George's Chapel, Windsor has many royal precedents.
The chapel has been the venue for royal weddings, christenings and funerals for over 500 years and is home to the Order of the Garter and the annual Garter Day Service. The garter was founded by Edward III in 1348 after the capture of Calais. It is the oldest existing monarchical order of chivalry.
