Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg continues to be regarded within the Grand Duchy as the "Mother of all the Nation". With this official silver ECU, Luxembourg commemorates the centenary of the birth of its much loved princess. Charlotte von Luxembourg (1896-1985) acceded to the throne upon the abdication of the elder sister, Grand Duchess Marrie-Adelheid. During the post-war years, she dedicated herself to the reconstruction of her country and the integration of Luxembourg within the European Community.
