1985 marks the Golden Jubilee of the official airmail service to and from the Isle of Man, inaugurated in 1935. This important postal and aviation 50th anniversary is commemorated by the 1985 Manx Christmas Double Crown. The coin's reverse depicts the arrival of the first Christmas airmail from the British mainland by Blackpool and West Coast Airlines in December, 1935. The aircraft - a De Havilland Dragon - is shown unloading the mailbags at Ronaldsway Airport as intrepid seagulls look on and preen themselves in the foreground.
The obverse face bears the official coinage portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, sculpted by Raphael Maklouf, FRSA.
