Nauru, 2008 5 Dollars RAF "Halifax and Vulcan bomber" Silver Proof. NOTE OBVERSE STAIN LEFT OF DATE
As a bomber, the Handley Page Halifax was the "poor relation" to the more famous Avro Lancaster. Though similar in many respects to the Lancaster, the Halifax lacked its ability to carry an ever-increasing bomb load with little loss of performance. Nevertheless, the Halifax proved to be a valuable workhorse, capable of taking great punishment and still flying home. The Halifax flew 75,532 sorties between 1941 and 1945, dropping 227,610 tons of bombs. For many years after World War II, the Avro Vulcan was at the heart of Britain's nuclear delivery defence strategy.
