Gibraltar, 2008 Five Pounds RAF "ROYAL AIRCRAFT FACTORY SE5a" Silver Proof.
Alongside the Sopwith Camel, the SE5a was one of the most effective and successful fighter of the First World War. Long-ranged and maneuverable, the single Vickers belt-fed machine gun mounted on the upper fuselage was supplemented by a drum-fed Lewis gun on a Foster mount on the top wing. Changing the 80-round drum was accomplished by unlocking the mount, pulling the gun down towards the cockpit, throwing the empty drum overboard and locking a new one onto the gun sliding it back up to the firing position. All this, in the middle of a dogfight!
