Bank of Nauru, 2008 Five Pounds RAF "TIGER MOTH & AVRO ANSON" Silver Proof.
The Tiger Moth was the most outstanding member of the successful De Havilland Moth family. In 1931 the D.H. 82 Tiger Moth emerged as a clear winner of RAF trials to find a new basic trainer. The RAF ordered 35, the first of which were delivered to No. 3 Flying Training School at Grantham in 1931. 8,700 were built and a number of these are still flying today. The Avro Anson enjoyed one of the longest production runs of any British aircraft. Production started from 1934 until 1952. The original Anson was based on a design drawn up for Imperial Airways.
