In only 15 years, Franz Schubert created a vast and wide-ranging musical oeuvre, at whose core may be found the 'Lied'. His song-cycles, "The Beautiful miller's Wife' and The winter Journey' rank among the greatest works in history of European music. He lived in Vienna in humble circumstances, he died of typhus in 1828 aged only 31.
