Haydn ranks alongside Mozart and Beethoven as one of the principal representatives of classic Viennese music. Born in Rohrau, Lower Austria, on 31 March 1932, the composer received his musical training as a choirboy at Vienna's St. Stephan's Cathedral (1740-49). He composed his great oratorios, including "The Creation" (1798) and "The Seasons" (1801). Shortly after the occupation of Vienna by the French, Haydn died on 31 March in 1809 age 77 years.
