Forty years ago, European co-operation commenced on the basis of the Treaty of Rome. Belgium was amongst the six nations which signed the Treaty at that juncture. With this official silver ECU, Belgium commemorates that historic event. It is the first ECU to be issued which bears the name of the future European currency: the EURO.
