Sir Bobby Charlton, Royal Mint Issue Silver Medal 1937-2023

Bobby Charlton, born in Ashington, Northumberland, on 11th October 1937, is a legend in 1958, at the age of 20, he survived a plane crash over Munich, during the return flight of the Manchester team. The death of seven of his team-mates was the beginning of Charlton's great football career, because Charlton played to honour them from that time on-wards. In July 1994, he was awarded the title of nobility by H.M. Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. The popular man rejected the official title of "Sir Robert"and chose the less informal "Sir Bobby". Voted European player of the year in 1966. Today Bobby Charlton remains England's leading goalscorer, with 49 goals from his 106 international appearances.
