Silver Medal Commemorating 1968 Olimpics in Mexico, EF/ aUNC

£56.00

The 1968 Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XIX Olympiad, were an international multi-sport event in Mexico City, Mexico in October 1968. The 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico were the most politically charged Olympics since 1936 Games in Berlin. Ten days before the Games were open, students protesting the Mexican government's use of funds for the Olympics rather than for social programs were surrounded in the Plaza of Tree Cultures by the army and fired upon. More than 200 protesters were killed and over a thousand injured.
