£42.00

Liverpool 800th Anniversary, 2007 Silver Proof Commemorating the "CAVERN CLUB" Mint Pack FDC. Reverse of the commemorative depicts: The world-famous Cavern Club. Minted in sterling Silver .925 fine, diameter: 38.6mm, weight: 20grams. Enclosed in capsule of issue within Mint pack. The Cavern Club opened as a jazz cellar below fruit warehouses at Mathew Street, Liverpool, in 1957. The Cavern provided the perfect setting for a form of jazz called skiffle, played on basic instruments such as the washboard. John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr played with skiffle bands at the Cavern Club. The Cavern Club was centre stage to the Merseybeat scene and, in particular, the Beatles who, with their distinctive sound and look, became music legends. Their 262nd and final performance there was on 3rd August 1963. The Cavern became a victim of changing trends and bad management and it closed in 1966.
